School Tour to Athenry Heritage Centre on Wednesday 10th June

Our class along with Mrs Mc Loughlin's class and Miss Long's class visited the Athenry Heritage Centre today. We left the school shortly after 9am and travelled on two buses (a big bus and a mini-bus). When we arrived we were divided into two groups. First we got to dress up in Medieval costumes. This was great fun - even all the teachers got dressed up! Miss Flaherty loved the pretty dress she was given to wear! Then we were told some amazing stories about life in Medieval times (the stories and demonstrations of punishments in the market square grabbed all our attention!!). Then we had our lunch outside at the picnic tables (the rain stayed away thank goodness). Next it was time for some individual archery lessons - we all had a turn until we hit the target. If we managed to hit a balloon we scored 10 points. Then we played Tug of War (16 against 16!!). We were glad that we had eaten our lunch first so that we had lots of strength for this. We then went for a quick tour of the Norman castle (it is the only restored Norman castle in Ireland). After that we got on the bus to return back to school. Some children even fell asleep on the bus on the way home after all the activity of the day. The tour was great and we really enjoyed it and had lots of fun things to do.
