Pancake Tuesday - 16th February 2010

We made delicious pancakes in class on Pancake Tuesday. First we had to put all the ingredients into a bowl and then we had to stir the mixture to get all of the lumps out!Next we poured a little of the mixture on the pan.We had to be really careful when we were near the hot pan. When one side of the pancake was cooked we turned it over to cook the other side. Then we put some fresh lemon juice on them and ate them while they wre still hot. They were very tasty indeed!!

We also learned a little rhyme about making pancakes:

Mix a pancake,
Stir a pancake,
Pop it in the pan.
Fry a pancake,
Flip a pancake,
Catch it if you can!!

Art for Valentine's Day

We made these lovely Valentine butterflies for Valentine's Day. We also made a very special heart using clay. When the clay was dry we painted it red and decorated it with glitter. We also made a Valentine's card and learned a Valentine's rhyme:
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet,
And so are you!!

Saint Brigid brings the Spring!!

Today is the feast day of Saint Brigid and it is also the first day of Spring. We learned a lovely song about Saint Brigid today and teacher told us about Brigid's life. We listened to the story about her cloak and how the chieftain of Ireland tried to trick her but luckily his plan didn't work and Saint Brigid got all the land she needed to build the church where people could gather and pray. We coloured in a lovely picture of Saint Brigid also. We saw how Brigid was a very kind and caring person and it reminded us all to be kind and caring to everyone we meet. Teacher then showed us a Saint Brigid's cross she made using rushes and then we all made our own Saint Brigid's crosses using 4 long strips of coloured paper.

Our crocus and daffodil bulbs are coming up

We planted these crocus and daffodil bulbs in autumn. We put some soil in a pot and then we made two little holes in the soil using our fingers. Then we put our bulbs in. We had to look at the bulbs carefully first to make sure that we planted the roots facing downwards!! We then covered our bulbs with more soil and watered them. They were very silent indeed during the winter months and from time to time we took a little peak at them to see how they were coming along and to water them.

Monday 1st February, 2010

Have a look at our crocus and daffodil bulbs now!! They are coming along nicely and soon they will begin to flower. We have taken good care of them and we are very proud of them!
