Music in the Classroom - Tuesday, 18th January, 2011

We went to Leisureland last Tuesday to see the the RTE Concert Orchestra as part of Music in the Classroom. It was simply superb. We had done a lot of preparation in class for the event over the past few weeks and we knew all the songs and loved joining in and participating. It was wonderful to see such an amazing orchestra perform and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Well done to the RTE concert Orchestra and all those involved in organising the event. A big thank you also to Miss Kearney and Mrs Cunningham for coming along with us.

Number Stories - the story of 6

Last week we were working on the story of 6. We used lots of concrete materials to help us work out all the various ways of making six (cubes, teddies, counters, lollipop sticks). As the week progressed we were able to work out the story of 6 all by ourselves and to record our answers as we went along. Here are some pictures of us working out the story of 6 using 6 pegs on a clothes hanger!!

Making Words

We are getting really good at sounding out words and also at making new words. Last week we were working on the 'at' family. We made lots of 'at' words on the board using large magnetic letters. Teacher sounded out a word for us and we had to listen very carefully to see if we could guess the word she was sounding out. Then we had to come up to the board and make the word using the magnetic letters. Some of the words we had to make were real words and some were nonsense words. We also had to say whether or not it was a real or a nonsense word.

Learning how to say the Rosary

Teacher brought us some Rosary beads from Italy and we are learning how to say a decade of the Rosary. Our beads are red and they smell like beautiful flowers!! We all take turns giving out the Rosary and we are getting very good at it. We remember to include everyone in our prayers each day, especially children less fortunate than ourselves and all the sick and homeless people. We also remember all our friends and our families.
