An African Tale - how the zebra earned her stripes!

Today we went to see Miss Lavery's and Miss Cunningham's classes perform their play - 'An African Tale - how the zebra earned her stripes'. It was really super and we enjoyed it immensely. The tale was set in Africa and in it we accompany the zebra on her many adventures in the wild to see if she can earn her stripes. There was a very important moral in the tale also - to accept ourselves just as we are. Well done to the two classes who took part.

Table-tennis

We are learning how to play table-tennis. We can't hit the ball too hard or it won't bounce on the table and if we don't hit it hard enough it won't go over the net!! We are getting better with practice. It is great fun.

Jack and the Beanstalk

Today all the Senior Infants went to the halla to see Miss O Connors and Miss Gilligan's after school drama group perform 'Jack and theBeanstalk'. It was GREAT! We all enjoyed the singing and dancing (the thriller song and dance routine was a firm favourite!!). Well done to everyone.

New Church Roof

The church beside our school got a new roof. Today when we were in the halla watching 'Jack and the Beanstalk' some of us spotted a builder on the roof. Doesn't the new church roof look great?

Prize-giving for Sports Day

Today all the Senior Infants got together again for the prize-giving ceremonies. It was great fun. We all got loop the loop ice lollies (Miss Flaherty's favourite ice lolly!) for doing so well yesterday on our Sports Day. Then we gave out some prizes for those who had won in the finals yesterday. Someone from every class got a prize. Well done to everyone.

Sports Day - Monday 15th June 2009

All of the Senior Infant classes got together today for our Sports Day. Luckily the rain stayed away just for us!! First we ran our own class races. We had the boys' sprint, potato and spoon and sack race. We did the same for the girls and then the winners went on to the final. Everybody did great and we will be celebrating tomorrow with ice-pops for everyone!!

School Tour to Athenry Heritage Centre on Wednesday 10th June

Our class along with Mrs Mc Loughlin's class and Miss Long's class visited the Athenry Heritage Centre today. We left the school shortly after 9am and travelled on two buses (a big bus and a mini-bus). When we arrived we were divided into two groups. First we got to dress up in Medieval costumes. This was great fun - even all the teachers got dressed up! Miss Flaherty loved the pretty dress she was given to wear! Then we were told some amazing stories about life in Medieval times (the stories and demonstrations of punishments in the market square grabbed all our attention!!). Then we had our lunch outside at the picnic tables (the rain stayed away thank goodness). Next it was time for some individual archery lessons - we all had a turn until we hit the target. If we managed to hit a balloon we scored 10 points. Then we played Tug of War (16 against 16!!). We were glad that we had eaten our lunch first so that we had lots of strength for this. We then went for a quick tour of the Norman castle (it is the only restored Norman castle in Ireland). After that we got on the bus to return back to school. Some children even fell asleep on the bus on the way home after all the activity of the day. The tour was great and we really enjoyed it and had lots of fun things to do.
